On the First Day of Christmas The Daily Croissant Gave to Me… A Gratitude Journal
Before you jump into full blown holiday shopping/decorating/party mode, take a few moments each morning this month to reflect on what you’re grateful for.
Write in a gratitude journal
Start the month off by reflecting on all the things you’re thankful for and revisit this list often throughout the month. The hustle and bustle of the season could bring up a lot of “not enough” or “have to do/get more” feelings and that is no way to spend the holidays! Instead, spend the time acknowledging all the good in your life.
If I’m in a rut or just having a bad day I read some old journal entries- prayers I wrote down or positive affirmations I once used- and I immediately feel uplifted. I can get back to that place of peace just by seeing how much there is to be grateful for and then I’m encouraged to write more too!
Here are a few things I’m thankful for this year…
1. My health
Something so many of us take for granted because we’re more concerned with what society says we should look like, how many hours we should spend at the gym to get that perfect bottom, or what new miracle juice we should drink. Instead, be grateful for the breath in your lungs, your four limbs, and the ability to get up and go to work every day. Unfortunately, not everyone has the simple gift of good health.
2. A warm and cozy apartment
This time of year, I can’t wait to come home from work, put on my cozy slippers, make a hot cup of peppermint tea (or pour a glass of wine), and enjoy my home. Check out how I create a cozy home for the holidays here.
3. This blog community (YOU!)
I thought about starting this blog for many years before it actually came to fruition. With the encouragement of my friend Mario (one of the founders of TDC and former content writer, now tech specialist and photographer extraordinaire) and a “why the hell not” attitude, The Daily Croissant was born. In the past year I’ve had many doubts about continuing this blog. It’s so much work; Who is reading it anyway? Who cares about what I have to say? But then it dawned on me, I want to use my voice and this platform for good, and if people follow along even better!
Despite the hours it takes me to create just one post, it’s all worth it when a colleague, friend, or follower mentions how they loved a post or were inspired in some way. Thank you so much for making TDC part of your daily/weekly/monthly reading. I hope to continue to inspire you with the content ahead! Pick out your journal
If you’re looking to start your day with more gratitude and joy, check out the five minute journal here. Everyday starts with an inspirational quote, a section to jot down what you’re grateful for and what can make this day great, and a daily affirmation. If you already have a journal, no need to get a new one! You can simply follow these steps in your own journal every day and see how that works out for you. It’s also available at amazon here.
A few of my favorite journals…
- Rifle Paper company journals make great gifts too. Check them out here.
- Wake Pray Slay journal. A Beyonce journal was the perfect gift my friend Adam sent me when I started my yoga teacher training. Find it here.
- A Parisian journal from one of my students who knew I loved journaling and Paris!
What are you thankful for today? Post a comment below to receive one of these journals from me in honor of the first day of The Daily Croissant Christmas! I’ll be picking the best comment on Monday, December 4!
