Take Care of Yourself with Essential Oils
I’ve never been one to suffer from allergies, however this last week they came on strong. I’ve been taking everything from Zyrtec and Claritin to Benadryl and nose spray to control my congestion. It wasn’t until today that I turned to my trusty essential oils for a cure. I had an all natural remedy right at my disposal this whole time. Whether you suffer from allergies, asthma, or maybe headaches or stress, there is an essential oil blend that can help you!
I started using essential oils during my yoga teacher training. I never knew their benefits they had until I started using and reading about them. Since then, I’ve been diffusing them at home and in my classroom. I use special blends to ease test anxiety and get my 8th graders to focus in school. I make lots of different blends depending on the mood I want to create for my yoga classes.

If you suffer from allergies, a blend of melaleuca (tea tree oil) and lavender will help. Combine a few drops of each oil and rub onto the soles of your feet and sinuses. Rub any excess oil on your chest and wrists. This worked very well for me. Re-apply this blend every hour or so to keep it working.
Along with allergies comes congestion. In this case, you can diffuse a mixture of eucalyptus, peppermint, and douglas fir. You can inhale it directly from a diffuser. Otherwise, you can use the same blend and apply it to your chest, neck, back, and feet.

Let’s face it, we all experience stress in our daily lives and sometimes we just need to step back, take a breath and chill. I find that diffusing a blend of lemongrass and lavender really helps me to calm down. You can also massage it onto your neck, back or bottoms of the feet.
Lavender is probably my favorite scent ever. Whenever I diffuse lavender, I close my eyes and pretend I’m in Provence (maybe that thought is what really makes me calm). Lavender has many benefits. It reduces anxiety and emotional stress, protects against diabetes symptoms, improves brain function, helps to heal burns and wounds, improves sleep and restore skin complexion just to name a few.
An uplifting oil like Peppermint is great for a boost of energy when you’re feeling sluggish. There’s a blend called Cheer which carries Wild Orange, Clove, Lemon, Nutmeg and more. This comes in a rollerball that you can rub on your palms and inhale or rub on your temples.
Diffuse an array of oils such as Frankincense, Bergamot, Lavender, and Lemon to boost your mood. For topical use combine equal parts of Bergamot, Chamomile, Frankincense, and Orange and add fractionated coconut oil into a roller bottle. Rub on your palms and inhale the notes for positive vibes.
