Summer in the City
Welcome to The Daily Croissant’s Summer in the City series. Read on for what to do in NYC in the upcoming weeks!
The heat is on in NYC and we couldn’t be happier to get out and enjoy it! Al fresco dining, outdoor events and beautiful sunsets over the Hudson River; Need we say more?
Here are just a few of our favorite outdoor activities and events to enjoy a Summer in the City:
Philharmonic in the Park. This Wednesday, June 14, Central Park and the New York Philharmonic team up to bring you a free event in the park. This is a beautiful concert featuring Gershwin’s “An American in Paris”. Pack a picnic basket and a blanket and head over to The Great Lawn to enjoy a night under the stars in Central Park. The show starts at 8 p.m, but get there early as 50,000 + people are expected.
Outdoor yoga. There are so many free yoga classes offered outdoors in the summer.
- Summer Solstice in Times Square. This event is the biggest outdoor yoga event in NYC. Who would think that you can find your Zen in the midst of Times Square? Sign up for the free class here. Classes run all day on June 21.
- Bryant Park. Classes are held on the lawn in Bryant Park at 6 p.m. every Thursday evening at 6 p.m. Roll out your mat for a beautiful evening practice. This is just a short walk from Grand Central Station. Check out classes here.
- Land Yoga of Harlem is offering free classes on select Saturdays in the summer. (June 10th, July 8th & August 12th) Located at the East Side of Morningside Park at 117th Street. Bring your mat, a towel, water bottles, etc! Classes begin at 10 a.m.
Sip and Stroll
Go for a stroll at Lincoln Center. Ever since becoming part of the Shakespeare in the Middle Schools Program with Lincoln Center Theatre, I have been in love with this beautiful property. Between the gorgeous fountain, gift shops and restaurants, you don’t even need to see a show to enjoy the beauty of Lincoln Center. Grab a bite to eat at Cafe Fiorello across the street for some amazing pizza and antipasto after you stroll the grounds.
Soak in the Sunset on the Hudson!
Just a short walk from Lincoln Center is Pier i cafe. This is a great place to grab a cold drink, meal or snack. Gather your girlfriends for book club or stop off after a run along the Hudson. Seat yourself at one of the picnic tables, but be prepared to wait as it fills up quickly on warm summer nights! There’s a great selection of burgers, salads, and craft beers on tap too. Located at 70th street and River Side Park South. Another great watering hole is the Boat Basin Cafe located just north of Pier i at 79th street. Ellington in the Park is an outdoor cafe located along Riverside Park with outdoor seating and a good cocktail menu.
So whether you’re visiting the city or just need a break from your everyday routine, there is so much to do in the city this summer!
