Exploring The Health Benefits of Wine
Is wine healthy for you?
Yes, and no! As the old saying goes, “everything in moderation”. According to The American Heart Association, drinking a glass of red wine a day can lead to lower mortality rates in some populations. The association determined that the health benefits come from the flavonoids found in the skin of red grapes. According to the study, flavonoid intake has been found to lower the chances of developing heart disease.
But stop if you’re already running towards your local wine shop!
Alcohol is not good for your health
It’s important to realize that heavy alcohol intake can lead to high blood pressure, and heart failure. Excessive drinking can also lead to alcoholism and the development of diabetes.
So what is a wine lover to do?!
Moderation, moderation, moderation
The key is enjoying your favorite glass of wine accordingly. Drinking a glass of wine a day will not provide you with a lot of health benefits. On the contrary, the negative aspects to drinking alcohol far outweigh the positives.
But who’s to say that you can’t enjoy an awesome glass of wine from time to time? All things considered, wine can become a component of a healthy lifestyle. Red wine, when combined with a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables can lead to a lower risk of heart disease.
Let’s not forget a healthy dose of exercise!
Moderate intake of wine, like exercise, has been proven to increase the levels of HDL cholesterol. HDL is the “good” cholesterol that helps rid the body of bad cholesterol by guiding it to the liver for processing.
I love drinking wine, though I admit it’s not for the health benefits. But I am mindful of the benefits that it provides, and am glad to be able to enjoy a guilt free glass from time to time. There’s just nothing like enjoying a glass among friends, or on special days. Then there are those times where a glass just seems like the proper send off to a long day.

I am also now trying to add a meditation routine, with the help of Ashley, to supplement my prayer life. I’m also very happy that my love of wine can have a positive impact on my health.
