Santa Monica Vibes
It’s Spring Break season and time for another getaway! I’ll be jetting off somewhere warm and tropical next week and I just can’t wait! If you haven’t planned anything yet and are looking for some last minute ideas without crossing any oceans, read on for one of my suggestions.
Santa Monica, California. This was my first stop on a California road trip I took last spring break and I absolutely loved it! The weather is almost always sunny and warm.
EAT: There’s such a healthy vibe going on (as is the case in most of southern Cali) so you can enjoy great organic, locally sourced food from restaurants like True Food Kitchen and delicious Acai bowls almost everywhere. Grab one and take it down to the beach while you listen to the waves crash against the shore. One of my favorite things to do after waking up was to go for a nice run down to the beach and then grab a delicious mint mojito coffee from Philz coffee. My pizza stop in SM was Stella Barra that served up delicious thin crust pizzas with really fresh ingredients as well as the local Santa Monica Brew Works beer. On my way out of Santa Monica I couldn’t leave without a stop at Huckleberry Cafe. This cafe will always have a special place in my heart. I even bought my mom their cookbook! There were so many yummy breakfast and lunch options, but I went with a simple coffee and zucchini muffin. I will never forget the feeling of contentment and happiness I felt as I sat there and enjoyed my muffin. If that was my last meal, I would’ve died happy!
SHOP: If you know me at all, you’re well aware that I can’t travel without doing some retail damage! You can find some great shopping on the Third Street Promenade. There’s everything from local farmer’s markets, to a Johnny Was boutique for beautiful hand-embroidered boho chic beachwear, Anthropologie for everything from great accessories, soaps, and and trendy pieces, and my favorite workout wear designer Lorna Jane!
DO: The Third Street Promenade is a great leisurely walk that leads to the Santa Monica Pier where you can find Carnival style games and food as well as the famous Ferris wheel! One morning while out for a walk, one of the local yoga studios, Naam Yoga, had a free pop-up class in Palisades Park (Why don’t I live in California yet?) Don’t go to Palisades Park without checking out the Santa Monica stairs for a great ending to your beach run. They will kick your butt, but the view from the top is so worth the climb. Plus, you’ll earn your margaritas and muffins, girl!
Overall, Santa Monica is just a happy place to be. If you want a nice balance of good food with a laid back vibe and enjoy the outdoors for walking, running, yoga, volleyball and the beach of course, then you will appreciate Santa Monica. I rented a car because I was on a road trip, but you could probably get away without one if you stay close to the beach.
Stay tuned for another nearby getaway you can take this spring in my next post!
