Pizza again? Yup!
With the Lenten season upon us it provides a great excuse to eat more pizza (as if we needed one!) I give up meat for 40 days and my meal of choice comes as no surprise if you’ve been reading this blog. I talk about healthy living a lot, but when it comes down to it, my philosophy is: everything in moderation. Am I right?
For a long overdue blog meeting and celebration of our 2 month mark, I suggested to Mario that we go to Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria Napoletana. With no hesitation, he agreed! To my utter shock he said that he hadn’t had pizza in two months. Candidly, I admitted that this would be my third time eating pizza this week (Don’t judge me. Today I’m eating nothing but fruits and veggies). As I waited for Mario to arrive, I ordered a glass of Merlot. By the time he got there I was already nice and toasty.
Frank Pepe’s is a no-frills, old-school type of pizzeria restaurant- these are always the best in my opinion. The pies come in small (good for 2 people to share), medium (serves 3-4), and large (5-8). We went with 2 smalls: Frank Pepe’s famous signature White Clam Pie and a classic Margarita. The pizza is served piping hot right on the oven tray. The margarita was crispy with a great sauce to fresh mozzarella ratio and the perfect amount of fresh basil sprinkled on top. I’m not as big a fan of the white clam pie because the dough tends to get a bit soggy due to the fresh clams. With that said, it is tasty and if you like clams and garlic give this famous pie a try! What makes Pepe’s so special? They stick to coal-fired ovens for their crispy, charred, chewy, thin crust pizza. Frank Pepe was an Italian immigrant who started this establishment in 1925 and it’s still going strong today with 9 locations in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Yonkers!
If you’re looking for pasta or dessert options, this isn’t the place for you. However, if you want salad, pizza and beer, come here! Our 2-month blog celebration would not be complete without something sweet. Luckily Carvel was right across the street. We ended the night with ice cream and so many ideas and content to bring you in the coming weeks! Stay tuned for a few new features this month. We hope you like what you’re reading. Feel free to leave us a question or comment below and let us know how we’re doing or what you’d like to see more of on the blog. Thanks for reading. Now, go treat yourself to some pizza!
